We have little doubt that a shooter with tastes as refined as yours is already familiar with the Hornady eXtreme Terminal Performance (XTP). The jacketed hollow point is popular among competitive shooters for its accuracy, although its true talents only come out once it has struck a threat.
The XTP’s nose cavity isn’t laid completely bare by its gilding metal jacket. Its rim is shielded, which keeps it in proper form until it has entered soft tissue. At that point the XTP’s rim serrations and frontal section’s thin jacket both spring into action, delivering expansion even when impact energy is somewhat anemic.
When it is made for a revolver cartridge, the XTP is given a cannelure. It’s hardly high technology, but it is nevertheless effective at preventing the bullet from creeping out of its seating under recoil (which this round doesn’t generate in excess). Its jacketed rim also helps the XTP feed smoothly into a lever-action firearm. Looking for a low-recoil varmint load for your Big Boy 327 Federal Magnum? Here be it!
