This cartridge is loaded with a 158 grain bullet. It’s a weight in between what’s commonly used for self-defense and hunting, making it a good middle ground. The soft point bullet wears an incomplete copper jacket. It keeps lead from touching the barrel to conserve accuracy. It keeps the bullet from splintering apart excessively to improve penetration depth after impact. The soft point’s flat, lead tip is just fine for your Henry or other lever gun. It transfers kinetic energy effectively on impact, and then mushrooms and tumbles to maximize damage. The HTP bullet may double in diameter before finally coming to rest.
This ammo’s Kleanbore primers have been around for decades. (You can even see them in The Shawshank Redemption, which was set in 1947, toward the end of the movie where the warden opens his desk drawer.) Remington HTP ammo has new brass cases and is reloadable.
