We’re saying you’re smart – and precisely the sort of outdoorsman who’ll get his full money’s worth out of Remington Core-Lokt Handgun ammunition.
This cartridge’s 180 grain bullet does truly lethal things to medium game. Its two components are fastened to one another – not electrochemically, but mechanically, where the jacket extends into the core. This design provenly improves weight retention, which is key to deep penetration. Whilst the JHP tunnels through the quarry, its flat soft lead meplat and deep nose cavity kick into action (in which “action” takes the form of up to double-diameter terminal expansion).
We presume Remington used a 4” vented barrel to record this round’s advertised 1,090 fps muzzle velocity and 979 fps 100-yard velocity. That equates to 0.216 G1 BC, and these approximate ballistics:
0yds: 1,090 fps | 475 ft lbs | -0.2”
25yds: 1,057 fps | 447 ft lbs | 0.9”
50yds: 1,029 fps | 423 ft lbs | 0.0”
75yds: 1,003 fps | 402 ft lbs | -2.9”
100yds: 980 fps | 384 ft lbs | -8.0”
Unlike the rifle variants, Core-Lokt Handgun ammunition features nickel-plated brass cases. They’re a big value add, as they protect against corrosion, smooth out feeding and extraction in a revolver, and help lever guns (which this ammo is compatible with) function more reliably.
