We suspect that Federal sells a lot of their Synthetic Range ammo for the simple reason that its bullet looks cool. And indeed it does, but there’s a lot more to this 40 S&W training round’s bullet than meets the eye!

This cartridge’s 165 grain bullet is made of a lead core and Total Synthetic Jacket (TSJ). The TSJ is made entirely of polymer, which means when it strikes metal (such as a steel target or target hanger) it is incapable of ricocheting a sliver of copper back at the shooter.

The TSJ doesn’t make shooting safer just by preventing splash-back. It also completely encapsulates the base of the bullet to prevent toxic lead from evaporating during ignition. This round is even healthier to fire at an indoor range thanks to its lead-free Catalyst primer.

A TSJ is better for your handgun as well. The synthetic jacket prevents all copper and lead fouling, and also generates less of the friction that will gradually wear out a barrel. This round is designed to deliver less of the recoil that throws your aim off after every shot, making it even more satisfying to train with. Federal’s brass shell casings are always reloadable!
