Federal Premium is changing the name of the 40 S&W defense ammunition game. Copper-jacketed hollow points that stay in one piece after impact? Forget about ‘em. This ammo overpowers the threat with polymer-coated and segmented hollow points.
That polymer coating? It’s “Syntech” – a suitably named synthetic material which reduces bullet-on-bore friction, and eliminates metal fouling while it’s at it. It also makes the bullet blue, but do not taste it. It isn’t raspberry flavored.
The segmented hollow point breaks apart into four extremely harmful pieces shortly after impact. The “core” proceeds in a straight line, and can penetrate ballistic gel (bare or shielded by heavy clothing) to a depth of 12 to 18 inches (thus satisfying the FBI standard for penetration). The three remaining “petals” each inflict their own separate 6+ inch deep wound channels. A devastating effect!
