We test fired five rounds of .40 S&W (Smith & Wesson) Federal 155 gr Hydra Shok into synthetic ballistic gelatin to observe its expansion and penetration characteristics. The ammo was fired from a Glock 27 pistol at a distance of 10 feet. A four-layer barrier of heavy fabric was placed in front of the gelatin to simulate clothing.
The complete data for this load from our test can be found on the chart below. The photo slider displays the expanded bullets that were retrieved from the gel. Pictured below is a high speed video that shows the bullet entering the gel at approximately 10,000 frames per second. The diagrams at the bottom of the page should give you an idea of how this load compares to other .40 S&W (Smith & Wesson) loads.

Great ammo for personal protection

Just put 50 rds through my 40. All were clean, right on the money and you should see the target stand after every bullet went thru the target then into 1" thick salt treated backing board. Reminds me of swiss chess.

Originally bought the 135gr version when I first got my ccw. Now that I have to provide my own duty ammunition for work, the 155gr version is what I went with because I've seen the ballistics for it and am willing to bet my life on it
