We wanted to know exactly what happens to a self-defense handgun bullet on impact, so following FBI protocols, we fired five rounds of Magtech 155 gr Guardian Gold from 10 feet, through four layers of cloth (to simulate clothing), into synthetic ballistic gelatin. The photos below show the bullets recovered from the gelatin after being fired from a Glock 27 pistol. There’s also a high speed video that shows the bullet impacting the gelatin block.
All the data we gathered pertaining to expansion and penetration of this load can be found in the chart below, and the diagrams at the bottom of the page show how it compares to other .40 S&W (Smith & Wesson) self-defense loads from our tests.
In addition to the .40 S&W (Smith & Wesson) Magtech 155 gr Guardian Gold, we tested over 100 other self-defense loads, so check out Lucky Gunner Labs for the full story.

Actually did my own little test on this ammo. I have a Glock 27. I hung some denim jeans in front of a steel drum barrel(not rusted). Inside the barrel I put a bunch of wood blocks & they were approximately 1" X 1". Just leftover wood from a unimportant project. This ammo is unbelievable. Not only did it go thru the barrel & all the wood, it devastated the wood blocks inside. Busted them to pieces. I found a few of the mushroomed bullets in the dirt. Great expansion, awesome power! U got my recommendation for home defense. This is a super stopper!

Excessive muzzle flash!
Review by DFWguy
Purchased this ammo for self-defense use. Personally I've never seen this much muzzle flash from a .40. If fired in low-light situations, this ammunition would certainly compromise your night vision. I won't be buying this stuff again.
*NOTE: Aside from the muzzle flash, this ammunition fed and fired reliably. Similar Magtech Guardian Gold in 180 gr showed noticeably less flash.
