Designed to excel at the FBI's rigorous ammo tests, HST rounds feature a bullet with a patented skived-tip design that breaks into six long petals upon contact with an assailant. Instead of a mushroom shape, the expanded round looks more like a star; this shape provides better penetration without giving up anything in the way of expansion. Additionally, the jacket is mechanically locked near the base of the core to provide optimal weight retention.
These .40 S&W cartridges fire a heavy 180 grain version of the HST bullet at a muzzle velocity of 1,010 feet per second.
