This 45 ACP ammo by Barnaul is “S.O.R” – straight outta Russia. As such it has two important characteristics which may affect your plans: magnetic bullets and steel cases.

This round’s 230 grain FMJ projectile is standard for the 45 ACP. The bullet has a got a solid lead core, and its outermost layer is copper. Most of its jacket is made of steel, however, which means it will attract a magnet. Many commercial ranges won’t let you fire that kind of ammo on their premises! Otherwise the FMJ performs just like any other, although its 935 fps muzzle velocity is on the faster side and may accordingly generate more felt recoil.

Barnaul’s ammo is especially affordable because it has steel cases. They are coated with heat-resistant polymer to facilitate smoother feeding and extraction in a semi-auto. They’re also much more rigid than brass, which means (A) they will let more fouling enter a firearm’s action, and (B) they are not worth handloading.

This is new production ammo, not the old corrosive stuff. Barnaul’s modern Berdan primers will not deposit harmful residues in your action and barrel.
