Ballistics Test Summary

How does Fiocchi 230 Grain compare to other .45 ACP (Auto) self-defense loads? We conducted some tests with Clear Ballistics synthetic gelatin to find out. Following the FBI’s test protocol, we fired five rounds into the gel with a barrier of heavy clothing. We used a Kahr CW45 because the short barrel is similar to the type of compact handguns that are most likely to be carried concealed. Images of the fired bullets suspended in the gelatin are in the graphic above.

We measured the penetration depth of each bullet and then recovered them from the gel to measure the expanded diameter. You can find all of that data in the chart at the bottom of this page. Photos of the recovered bullets are below on the left and a slow motion video of the first bullet fired into the gel is down on the right.
