Hornady TAP Patrol 5.56x45 ammunition is made for law enforcement officers – but it is also available to civilians.

This cartridge’s 53 grain CX projectile is normally found in lead-free hunting ammunition. It excels at defensive applications as well, largely because the solid copper projectile consistently retains all (or very close to that much) of its weight as it pierces barriers.

The monometal CX doesn’t merely satisfy FBI test protocol because it penetrates to a reliable depth. It also expands just as dependably thanks to its polymer tip, which prevents its nose cavity from impacting with debris before expansion can occur. The tip’s flat profile is optimized for smooth feeding in semi-automatics.

Bright muzzle flash can blind you in the dark. This TAP Patrol ammo’s low-flash propellant won’t. It’s also temperature stable, so you can expect the ballistic performance you’re used to regardless of the day’s highs and lows. Lead-free primers, too!

This round’s 3,300 fps muzzle velocity was recorded with a 20” test barrel. It is specifically designed to pass the FBI’s test protocol in conjunction with a 14.5-16” 1:7-1:9” barrel; muzzle velocity at 14.5” is 3,096 fps; muzzle velocity at 16” is 3,157 fps; G1 BC is 0.170.
