This 50 Beowulf cartridge by Underwood features a 350 grain XTP (eXtreme Terminal Performance) projectile by Hornady. The XTP is designed to expand reliably, even at lower velocities, a feat it achieves thanks largely to its carefully engineered jacket. Its thickness actually varies throughout its entire length in order to promote even expansion, and it is divided via serrations to better control how the XTP mushrooms outward. The XTP’s nose cavity functions correctly starting at the moment of impact thanks to its jacket’s protection, and its swaged lead core makes it better able to fly straight and penetrate deep into its target.

Underwood’s propellant is specially formulated to produce very little muzzle flash when ignited. While that’s often touted as a boon to self-defense, it’s also excellent if you’ll use this round to hunt for deer around sunset or hogs long after the sun has gone down. This round’s brass casing will cycle easily through your semi-automatic rifle, and deserves to be reloaded after the fact.
