Are you already attuned to the ballistic performance of the 7.62x51 M80 cartridge? Then it must be frustrating for you, knowing that you cannot use ammo you know so well for hunting whitetail, wild boar, and other medium game. “Woe is me!” you lament to yourself. “If only an ammo manufacturer understood my plight, and loaded what is essentially M80 ammo albeit with bullets that are suitable for hunting!”
Your lamentations are over. Winchester did exactly the thing you wished they would, and you are looking at material evidence of that fact.
This cartridge’s bullet weighs 150 grains, and has an advertised muzzle velocity of 2,775 fps. Right on the money for an M80 load, no? But here’s the deviation. Instead of an FMJ, this round is armed with a pointed soft point: a bullet which widens as it punches through flesh, and distributes more energy suddenly, and gouges out a wider wound channel, and is just all around deadlier to whichever animal caught it.
“Wow!” you said upon discovering this ammo. “And I presume I would be correct in assuming that it is loaded with virgin, reusable brass cases.” As always, your intuition does not lead you astray. This ammo is reloadable.
