Hornady didn’t just perfect the lead-free 7mm PRC hunting cartridge. They created the 7mm PRC, as well as the polymer-tipped monolithic bullet this Outfitter series round is loaded with!
No need to guess what the Copper alloy eXpanding bullet is made of. Its unique composition makes it inordinately tough – so much so that high-velocity impact won’t rob the CX of more than 5% of its weight. Its polymer tip hammers into the CX’s nose cavity on impact, thus pulling the pin on lethally shocking terminal expansion.
The CX isn’t merely accurate because it massively curtails barrel fouling (can’t create lead residue without lead!). It also features grooves around its shank to minimize bearing surface and boost overall accuracy, as well as Hornady’s very own Heat Shield tip, which has a special low-drag DVRT flat meplat and is made of special polymer that doesn’t deform while air friction bakes it. Hornady’s 24” barrel gives the 160 grain monolithic a 0.596 G1 BC, which produces this approximate ballistic performance:
