"Monolithic" refers to a solid metal bullet that does not have a jacket. The term commonly refers to all-copper bullets such as Barnes' TSX or the HoneyBadger. This round's bullet isn't strictly monolithic because its copper core does have a bronze jacket. ("Monophonic" refers to a piece of music with only one instrument.)

Looking for a formidable self-defense round for your carry weapon? Fiocchi thought you might, which is why they got the lead out when they developed their Expansion Monoblock projectile.

This 9mm self-defense cartridge’s 92 grain bullet takes a different approach to things. Devoid of lead, it is comprised of a tough copper core and a nearly inseparable bronze jacket. The bullet lacks a hollow point nose cavity that could lose its efficacy once it has filled up with cloth or other debris. As the Expansion Monoblock enters its target, it burrows in about six inches deep while expanding with the utmost uniformity. By the time the Expansion Monoblock comes to rest, it should have mushroomed to twice its original diameter – about .7”, which combined with so fast a bullet’s ripping energy is exceedingly unpleasant for the target.

This round’s non-toxic bullet is great if you want to practice indoors or a place you’d rather not pollute. It’s also able to prevent lead fouling completely, and its performance is made all the cleaner by Fiocchi’s specially formulated propellant and non-corrosive Boxer primer. This round’s new production brass casing cycles without complication in any semi-auto, and is reloadable once emptied out.
