Magtech is an ammo company based out of Brazil and has been around for over 80 years. Their parent company, CBC, is the largest provider of military ammunition in Latin America. They also own the popular European ammo company S&B. Magtech is not quite as popular here in the US, but in other parts of the world they have a strong reputation for making quality reliable ammo for a number of different shooting applications.
The Magtech we tested for this video is their 180 grain 40 Smith & Wesson load. It features a reloadable brass case with a noncorrosive primer. The bullet is a traditional lead core, copper full metal jacket. And like most 40 Smith & Wesson bullets, it has a flat tip.
We ran a couple of boxes of this ammo through six different pistols to see how it would perform. Reliability was no problem at all. We didn't experience any feeding malfunctions or ignition failures.
Recoil was just slightly softer than some of the other 40 caliber target loads that we've tried. If you're shooting a compact handgun or otherwise have any issues with being recoil shy, you might want to try this load to see if it helps. We used a Beretta 96 to test accuracy from a benchrest at about 15 yards. Our 10-shot group demonstrated excellent consistency with all the rounds impacting about an inch or two above the point of aim.
It's easy to overlook Magtech with so many other more common brands out there. But in my experience, it's always been dependable ammo in any pistol caliber. I wouldn't hesitate to use this 40 caliber load for any range application.

Great Plinking ammo!
Read other reviews on jams but I have fired well over 2000 Magtech rounds through Glock 23's and Glock 22 without an issue. Mostly 180 gr, but have used 165 gr too.Did not find it dirty, about average (lol, cleaner than the CCI I have fired).
No jams, no misfires, no squibs.
Did have a feed problem but that was not the ammo, needed to rebuild an older magazine, also make sure to deep clean your slides.
Good Good practice ammo
I typically run 180gr Defence ammo in my S&W MP 40 SHIELD. So I practice with the same weight of bullet. The Magtech loading is good practice ammo. The only negative it's tad dirty other than that. No issue's and plenty accurate.
Fires great and cycles fine, but a bit dirty
So after 300 of 1000 rounds down, no miss-fires, 1 cycle issue in but round was fine when reloaded (in Glock 23s).
Lucky Gunner's order and delivery was spot-on, next day actually.
My only complaint is this ammo is a bit dirty. Clean-up took a bit extra to make sure the GSR was taken care of. It compares to the aluminum Blazzer rounds as far as clean up goes; they both fire well, cycle well, but a bit dirty on the clean-up
No fails, inexpensive, as accurate as I am
I will buy more Magtech of various calibers. So far I have thousands of rounds of 9mm, 40, 38 and 357M. To date I have had zero failures of any sort. Great inexpensive ammo.
Cheap ammo just isn't worth it...
I purchased 1000 rounds and hoped for a good deal, unfortunately it was not.
Multiple people tried to talk me out of purchasing Magtech, but I only listened to my wallet.
In the first 50 rounds, the Magtech ammo misfired once and jammed twice. We were shooting with a Glock and a SW Shield. Jams happened in both guns. After the misfire we stopped shooting.
I have been very impressed with the customer service from luckygunner.com !
It is always good to trade some of my dollars for some .40 S&W rounds. My 3 Glock's all handled this ammo in a pleasant fashion. No misfires, hang fires or other malfunctions. I am a Happy Gunner, as usual.
Decent but not great
It seems some of the boxes I would get failures to fire. Actually I would say about half the boxes I got at least 5-10 rounds that wouldn't fire on the first strike. A friend was using snap caps as training, he offered to let me use them and I said no thanks, this ammo will function the same haha. It does feed and eject well, and is plenty accurate for plinking and training. It wasnt the cheapest I could find either, which was kinda sad. I would not buy again unless I really want to train on clearing lots of failure to fire malfunctions.
I'm buying my 3k of magtech both in 9 mil and 40 cal I have yet to have any trouble with
this brand. I now have the guys at work buying from luckygunner. I use these at the range
and am ask how I can afford to shot so much, sometimes 5 or 6 times a month. I tell them that if your not buying from lucky gunner your paying to much for any of the brands they carry.
Magtech is pretty good but had a misfire. Upon further exam of misfired cartridge, I noticed the primer appeared jammed in and pushed flush. Then I noticed others that had weird looking primers. The functioned properly but that misfire but that little doubt in my mind if I was to use this ammo for anything other than target practice. Buy thus for practice and purchase high quality ammo when you need to depend on it firing
40 s&w 180 gr FMJ Flat Magtech
Being a novice shooter, and with a new ruger sr40c. I wanted to see if this gun had any problems with FTE,s or FTF,s with different brands or loads. being FMJ Ball or HP,s. I will not compare all brands I bought but this Magtech was a very good price, and had no FTE,s or FTF,s through 200 rd.s. Was not dirty and feel quite at ease with my purchase of 1K rd.s Performance wise I am not qualified to rate it. Hell it shot and ejected everytime ! I look at every round before loading it into the Mag. Did not have to put any aside because of suspect problems. ie: quality control seemed very good . 200 rd.s is not a lot, but was a good start..... PS: shoot often and shoot safe................
Great ammo for any purpose
I had the (expensive) habit of using Federal ammunition, but the Magtech ammo is no different, fires cleanly, and after my first 100 rounds in the Glock 22, it jammed not once. Very high-quality ammo at a very reasonable price. I WILL be buying this same order in the future. Shipping is exactly what they say it is or faster. Don't bother going anywhere else.
Great Ammo for the price
Bought a case of 1000 for my SIG P229 a couple years back and I've burned through a little more than half of it plinking at the range at this point. No real issues to speak of, and the ones that did occur I'm sure were due to a dirty firearm rather than the ammo itself. Would buy again.
Good range ammo
I shot 500 rounds at the range without any problem on my PX4 storm. This brand feeds great, fires clean, and cheaper than other big name brands. Lucky Gunner had fast delivery with good packaging out to CA. .
Doesn't Get Any Better
I bought two cases of this ammo (2,000 rounds) and I've gone through 600 so far without a single problem. Feeds great, fires every time, and much cleaner than comparable ammo like Remington. I did a side-by-side test of this ammo, Remington, S&B, Winchester, and Fiocchi, and the Magtech was the best performer. The price here at LuckyGunner is also incredibly lower than anywhere else.
Great range ammo
I'm impressed with this bullet in my Glock 27; this is realiable ammo in any situation, at the range or not. Although I have a bit to go of the thousand rounds, no misfires, issues, or faults thus far. An exellent range round! If any changes or surprises occur, I will return to report it here.
Cant ask for more
This is great bulk ammo, as accurate as the shooter is. I've got almost 500 rounds through a P-30 with ZERO FTE / FTF. It is a little dirty but not excessively so. The price more than makes up for a bit more cleaning. Lucky Gunners service was great. The product arrived 3 days after the order was placed. Will definately purchase this product again.
Very good ammo for the price, Shoots straight. only complaint is that it is very dirty firing ammunition in the 40s&w. After firing150 rounds my gun looked as if I had fired 600 rounds of what I normally shoot. Now my buddy bought the mag-tec 9mm and it was way cleaner.
The 1000 .40 ammunition was fine. I purchased this on the price and contact from a previous order for 1000 rounds of .380 . Unfortunately the .380 ammo showed up as only 100 shipped, with 1000 billed. Poor eyesight in shipping. A phone call set it all right with promised rounds to be out before the deadline of a class starting. Remaining 900 rounds showed up a day later than promised. Had to locate some .380 asap to cover the day without ammo. Two mistakes in one order did not give me the seller confidence I would have preferred. All the ammo functioned perfectly. Both myself and daughter did four days of training with no ammo malfunctions. Delivery follow up and shipping inability to fill the order correctly did cause extra expense and desperate look for somewhat difficult to find .380 ammo.
Quality was great and phone interaction comforting. Delivery was not so good.
