In order to find out how different self-defense handgun loads perform, we decided to do some ballistics gelatin testing of our own. The chart below is a compilation of expansion and penetration data for Remington 102 gr Golden Saber fired from 10 feet, through four layers of fabric (to simulate clothing), using a Glock 42 pistol.
The photo slider provides a close-up view of the bullets we recovered from the gelatin, and the video shows this load entering the gel in extreme slow motion.
The diagrams at the bottom of the page can give you an idea of how this load compares to other .380 Auto (ACP) self-defense loads that we tested.
We did a lot more of this ballistic gelatin testing, including over 100 different loads in a variety of calibers, so check out Lucky Gunner Labs for all the details.

Good function. Reliable. High Remington quality. Good ammo for pipsqueak caliber.
Just by chance I shot an Arizona coyote in the chest with one round. The bullet completely blew through shoulder to shoulder. Coyote was DRT. No bullet recovery. But the coyote dropped the same as if hit by a center fire rifle.
Distance was 20 yds.
Excellent self defense ammunition
The Golden Sabre has been around a long time, and for a very good reason. At the time it was developed, hollow point ammunition that reliably expanded was few and far between. It still functions well today. Look around on the internet and see the reviews of the Golden Sabre. It's my first choice in .380 ammunition for personal defense. It has functioned reliably in all four of our .380 pistols and is much more accurate than the "white box" ammo we use in practice.
OUTSTANDING AMMO - great price
I keep eyes out for this ammo at lucky gunner. Its outstanding ammo and great prices/ I shot over 100 rounds each thru new glock 42, ruger lcp, bersa and taurus pistols This ammo worked perfect thru all of them. No hang ups , miusfires or hick-ups. when more come in will order lots more for stock up
This ammo shot great in my Ruger LCP and no jams after two magazines. The gold dot ammo I had on hand jammed on the slide almost every time. Some ballistics have shown that the jacket of this HP round tends to separate from the slug. Unless I'm shooting the federal HST round this round is really hard to beat.
remmington gtolden sabers
you just cant beat these for the price they chamber well in anything I've ever used the in . they are as clean as your going to get they are just about the best reasonable priced self defense target round out there as far as I am concerned my ruger lcp loves em and my 9mm p11 keltec does too
Unreliable in LCP
I loaded my first box into 4 separate magazines and test fired in my Ruger LCP (which has had no previous malfunctions), and all 4 suffered failures to feed after 2 or 3 rounds. Realizing I couldn’t use this for daily carry in the LCP, I rented a Beretta 84FS at the range and shot the remaining 3 boxes I had purchased, and they performed flawlessly and very accurately in the Beretta. A good round, but be wary if using in small pocket guns.
I bought a Sig Sauer 380 for my wife, we went to the range and the gun jammed. Turns out the gun doesn't like cheap ammo so I bought Remington 102 grain hollow point ammo. I weapon worked flawlessly. I know all auto's jam but spend the extra money buy name brand with brass cartridges.
This ammo is higher quality than my pistol
No problems in 50 rounds.
It worked in my Taurus TCP.
First time ordering through Lucky Gunner since there was no .380 available in my area. Fast shipping and a reasonable price. Will order through Lucky Gunner again.
Excellant ammo for Rugar LCP
Great ammo. No misfires in my Rugar LCP. As long as you clean your gun after every shooting you should not have any misfires. A clean gun is even more important than the type of ammo you buy. This ammo works great and I am stocking up on it .Lucky Gunner is always quick on the delivery and I am highly recommending them to my friends.
My first transaction, but not last, with LuckyGunner was excellent. Great customer service, super fast shipping on high quality ammo( 380 Auto-Remmington Golden Saber. This item is very hard to find at retail and buying from LuckyGunner saves me gas and time. Very good value to boot!
Great ammo for my Walther PK380
I bought this ammo for my Walther PK380 and it fires without a problem with a little more punch than your typical 95 grain rounds. With the cheaper prices I this round its definitely a good buy.
Expensive Rounds but Excellent Performance
I bought these because a previous review (by Mike) said he had excellent results with these rounds with his Kahr P380. I also had excellent results with my Kahr P380. I shot 100 rounds with no problems, and found these to be accurate with good groupings up to 10 yards.
My ammo performed flawlessly . Accurate and functioned exactly as I expected.
Good stuff, get some for yourself and see!
You can buy cheaper ammo but don`t do it when it comes to personal defense ammo.
Target shoot the Crap and shoot the bad guys with the good stuff !!
One of the best 380 cartridges . . . .
Have shot this ammo quite a bit, along with multiple other brands, including my reloads. Listed as one of the 5 BEST 380 rounds for personal defense by Massad Ayoob, Evan Marshall and Ed Sanow -- all retired law enforcement and "guru's" of guns and ammo. For listing of all best protection rounds for all calibers, go to chuckhawks.com and read article titled " AMMUNITION FOR THE SELF-DEFENSE FIREARM". Their data is compiled from thousands of police and civilian shooting incidents, autopsies and ballistic tests. Just my $.02 worth . . . .
One of the best 380 rounds
Fed and fired with 100% reliability in my Bersa 380cc and Taurus TCP. Accuracy excellent for the caliber & out of short barrels. Manageable recoil. Dramatic, reliable expansion in water jugs and ballistic gelatin. A bit on the pricey side but one of the best 380 rounds out there.
Excellent round, just a little pricey.
The Remington .380 caliber 102Grain Golden Saber JHP performed extremely well in mt LCP, as was evidenced by tight groups at 7 and15 yards, and flawless cycling. I wish the ammunition cost less.
