A: Hi Dan! The 30-30 is a significantly more powerful cartridge than the 44-40. The 30-30's muzzle energy is consistently more than double that of the 44-40.

A: Thanks for reaching out Don! "Killing power" is unquantifiable; too much depends on external factors, such as shot placement. I can give you an objective estimate, however. As a general rule, you want to hit a whitetail with a minimum of 1,000 ft lbs of kinetic energy to ensure a fast and humane kill. This cartridge's 0.268 G1 ballistic coefficient means that its 150 grain SP projectile will conserve at least 1,000 ft lbs of kinetic energy until it it passes 227 yards. I believe Federal used a 24" barrel to record this round's ballistic data, which means your M94 will deliver 1,000 ft lbs of energy at a shorter range if its barrel is shorter. Still, 200 yards is still a reasonable range to stay within if your barrel is 20".

A: Hello Dr. Schneider,
Yes, you can shoot these 150gr. Fusion rounds by Federal in your Thompson 30-30 handgun. They should work great for you.
