Winchester loads this three-incher with #1 buck: smaller than 00 buck at 0.30” diameter (as opposed to 0.33”). That’s why the shell holds 24 pellets total (around 60% more than a 3” double-aught load). So many pellets constitute a genuinely thick pattern, which makes it a bit easier to take down a moving target. And because #1 buck pellets are comparably lighter, they also avoid damaging as much meat as wider, heavier alternatives.
This low-velocity shell’s shot column has a secret weapon: buffering. They’re little plastic granules that separate the shot pellets from each other inside the shell.
