Hornady loads their TAP Training 223 Rem ammunition to compliment the performance of their analogous TAP duty rounds. But this ammo makes a perfect training tool no matter which brand of 223 Rem 55gr ammo you would fire in self-defense – and it’s equally good for plinking out back with Uncle Bob and Cousin Kyle.

This cartridge is loaded with a 55 grain full metal jacket bullet and has a muzzle velocity of 3,240 fps out if a 24” barrel. (You may recognize those as the same specs provided by our military’s 5.56x45 M193 load.) The nonmagnetic and non-expanding FMJ bullet has a G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.248. If that number means nothing to you, just know the cartridge’s ballistic performance is extremely normal for target-grade 223 Rem. The bullet’s trajectory should only have to rise by 0.5” before striking a 100-yard bullseye.

Hornady gives that FMJ the tools for success in the form of a quality reloadable brass case, clean-burning powder and non-corrosive Boxer primer. This ammunition comes direct from the manufacturer – it has not previously gathered dust at a police station somewhere.
