What can I say, this round just rocks.
I have been looking for a commercial round to shoot out to 500+ yards in my Rock River Varmiter 20" 1 in 9 twist. Sixty-nine grain SMK's are pushing the upper limit of what a 1 in 9 will stabilize, so I bought a bunch of brands (8), chrono'd then grouped them at 100 yards. Then I took the top two, plus a load I have shot a lot of and know it's funny ways, out to 300 in a shootout.
On the chono, Hornady's 68 gr BTHP match blew everything else away on velocity, SD and ED, but came up second to the Aussie load at both 100 and 300 yards in the shootout. Different gun, different shooter, different day, maybe different results, but I'm ordering more of this stuff today.
I never had any ammo from Australia. However knowing the shooting conditions there, I had to see if they make a good round. And I have to say I'm very impressed. It feels as if they loaded it a little hotter then the American 69 grain SMKs. It sounds and feels a little different in my gun. I hit a coyote at 70 and it did a lot of damage. It transferred the energy very well, and put the coyote down quick. The accuracy of the SMK for me is great.
