This cartridge’s packaging is a bit confusing. The “SMK” means “Sierra MatchKing” – its bullet. “Ammotec” is the shortened version of RUAG Ammotec’s name. But RUAG also owns Norma of Sweden, which is the manufacturer responsible for loading this match 223 Rem ammo here in America.

The MatchKing is a hollow point boat tail projectile. Its hollow point is not actually designed to expand like a traditional hunting bullet – it’s there because the MatchKing’s core was poured through it, thus molding itself perfectly to the contours of the bullet’s jacket as it hardened.

The MatchKing’s balanced core is complemented by its extremely thin and concentric jacket, as well as its drag-reducing boat tail base. As it weighs 77 grains this bullet’s muzzle velocity is indeed lower than usual, but in exchange it’s extremely resistant to wind deflection. With so many accuracy-enhancing features going for it this round’s bullet offers a G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.372 (G7 0.185). Perfect for putting holes in very distant targets.

Norma’s American-made ammo features extremely uniform brass cases, ultra-sensitive Boxer primers, and consistently loaded clean burning propellant.
