After over 100 years in business, it’s safe to say that Federal makes some superb hunting bullets. But they’ll still load another industry leader’s best projectiles in order to arm a deer hunter with the very best. Case in point: This 30-06 Springfield round’s 165 grain Scirocco II by Swift, which marries extreme accuracy with commanding terminal performance.

The Scirocco II’s distinguishing feature is its black polymer tip. Alongside its secant ogive nose profile, deformation resistant boat tail base, and rotationally stable driving band, so streamlined a meplat enables the Scirocco II to exhibit an elevated 0.450 ballistic coefficient. This bullet’s velocity shouldn’t dip beneath 2,000 fps until it has already cleared the 500 yard line.

The Scirocco II’s polymer tip is set into an underlying cavity within its core. This lets it commence expansion beginning at the instant of impact. The bullet’s jacket is progressively tapered to control uniform expansion at very high and low velocities alike, as well as bonded to its core to avert fragmentation that could have led to an insufficiently deep wound channel.

Federal seats this jewel of a bullet in a brand new brass case, and matches its primer and propellant to promote a consistent, brisk 3,000 fps muzzle velocity.
