This ammo’s made for you. It’s Federal Fusion Subsonic: loaded with (not abnormally heavy) 170 grain bullets that utterly fail at breaking the sound barrier. Does that mean this ammo’s weaker than average? By a great margin, yes. But it also won’t utter the piercing SNAP a suppressor can’t muffle. The hunter will hear his rifle at its absolute, bar none quietest.
The bullet is a Fusion soft point: bonded for added penetration depth (ideally), and capable of low-velocity expansion. It is by no means an absolute monster that can crush elk. It’ll put around 344 ft lbs into a 100-yard target (roughly the muzzle energy of a 9mm, for context).
This low-recoil cartridge’s bullet is balanced and uniformly heavy. Its 0.313 G1 BC represents the following (approximate) 100-yard ballistic performance:
0yds: 1,000 fps | 378 ft lbs | -1.5”
25yds: 984 fps | 365 ft lbs | 2.3”
50yds: 969 fps | 354 ft lbs | 3.9”
75yds: 955 fps | 344 ft lbs | 3.2”
100yds: 941 fps | 334 ft lbs | 0.0”
125yds: 928 fps | 325 ft lbs | -5.6”
150yds: 916 fps | 317 ft lbs | -13.7”
