This is a deer hunter’s cartridge (though we’re sure a competent elk hunter could do something legendary with it as well). It’s loaded with a 180 grain InterLock, which is far from your everyday run-of-the-mill soft point. It is more durable – a feat it owes to its cannelure and its signature InterLock ring, which embed its jacket into its one-piece lead core in two separate places. It also expands more reliably, as its grooved and tapered jacket easily splits open after impact at close- and long-range.
Hornady measured this Custom label cartridge’s 2,430 fps muzzle velocity with a 24” test barrel. They measured its 0.425 G1 ballistic coefficient with the same. By the manufacturer’s own report, this round’s ballistic performance is as follows:
• 0 yds: 2,430 fps, 2,360 ft lbs, -1.5”
• 100 yds: 2,234 fps, 1,994 ft lbs, 2.8”
• 200 yds: 2,047 fps, 1,674 ft lbs, 0.0”
• 300 yds: 1,869 fps, 1,397 ft lbs, -11.0”
• 400 yds: 1,703 fps, 1,159 ft lbs, -32.1”
• 500 yds: 1,548 fps, 958 ft lbs, -65.2”
