Federal Premium could have plunked any old bullet into a shiny new 300 PRC case and called it a day. But Federal is smart. They made a really good all-distance hunting cartridge by loading it with a 212 grain Hornady ELD-X.
The ELD-X projectile combines a Heat Shield polymer tip (immune to warping as a result of aerodynamic friction; Drag Variability Reduction Technology tip design), Advanced Manufacturing Process jacket (extraordinarily concentric; rotationally stable, just as much so), and InterLock ring (mechanically tethers jacket to core). Why? Because this configuration reliably delivers 50-60% weight retention within 400 yards, 85-90% weight retention beyond that range, and terminal expansion following impact at velocity as cool as 1,400 fps (which the ELD-X reliably exceeds well beyond 1,000 yards).
