Top Shelf Ammo
I have an Adams Arms .308 (Older model before P-1's). Had a hard time getting a good group with 150 gr ammo, basically spraying all around the 8 and 9 rings. Was starting to wonder if time was catching up to me as I am not a spring chicken. Bought 165, 168, 175, and 180 gr samples. Loaded up 3 of these 168 Grain A-MAX - Hornady BLACK rounds and shot a one MOA group at 100 yards and didn't feel like I was concentrating very well. Loaded three more and fired at a different bullseye. Same result. I have found my ammo for this rifle. FYI, this ammo did not group as well in my two son's Savage Axis bolt rifles. Their rifles shot best with Fed Prem SMK 175 Gr.
Just wanted to put some numbers out there for people...
I am getting just over 2600 FPS outta my 20” barrel with an SD of 10. I wouldn’t blame Hornady for false information on the box, usually, the test barrels are 24”, that would account for the nearly 100 FPS loss. Still, it's a great round, allows for sub 1/4 minute groups at 100yds and still holds consistently at 1200 yds.
