This ammo’s all it takes to prove that the 300 BLK isn’t the true crowned king of the subsonic realm. The round’s low 1,050 fps muzzle velocity will not produce a sharp crack, nor will it be followed by an especially flat trajectory. Hornady’s own 16” test barrel gives the round’s flat nose 307 grain 0.375 G1 BC bullet this kind of ballistic performance:
0 yds: 1,050 fps | 752 ft lbs | -1.5”
100 yds: 990 fps | 668 ft lbs | 0.0”
200 yds: 942 fps | 605 ft lbs | -33.9”
300 yds: 901 fps | 554 ft lbs | -107.0”
400 yds: 865 fps | 511 ft lbs | -223.0”
500 yds: 833 fps | 473 ft lbs | -385.6”
This round’s slow-moving bullet may reach its target with relatively little kinetic energy, but it is specially designed to make extra efficient use of kinetic energy. Between its deep hollow point nose cavity, supple Flex Tip, and aggressively grooved jacket, the Sub-X reliably lives up to the “X” in its name following impact at 900 fps (which this round does at 300 yards).
