This round’s bullet isn’t the heaviest Hornady loads in 338 ARC, but 285 grains is still more than bulky enough to ensure subsonic muzzle velocity. Hornady’s 24” barrel produces a 1,050 fps (~75 fps lower than sonic) muzzle velocity and 906 fps 500-yard velocity. Those figures allowed us to calculate 0.657 G1 BC and the following 150-yard zero data:
0yds: 1,050 fps | 698 ft lbs | -1.5”
50yds: 1,031 fps | 673 ft lbs | 7.3”
100yds: 1,014 fps | 651 ft lbs | 7.9”
150yds: 998 fps | 630 ft lbs | 0.0”
200yds: 983 fps | 611 ft lbs | -16.6”
250yds: 968 fps | 593 ft lbs | -42.2”
300yds: 955 fps | 577 ft lbs | -77.0”
That’s a full metal jacket bullet: no terminal expansion, but plenty capable of pummeling vermin without it.
This is the good stuff! Made by one of America’s greatest, with extremely uniform (A) nonmagnetic projectiles, (B) reloadable brass cases, and (C) military-grade primers, as well as lots o’ love!
