This cartridge features Doubletap’s Controlled Expansion series jacketed hollow point projectile. True to its name, the JHP undergoes extremely uniform terminal expansion that minimizes the risk of potentially disastrous overpenetration while maximizing damage to the intended target. The 125 grain bullet’s 1,750 fps muzzle velocity was recorded with a 6” barrel. If you choose a 4” barrel, you can anticipate a muzzle velocity of 1,600 fps (710 ft lbs muzzle energy); 1-7/8” barrel, 1,425 fps muzzle velocity (564 ft lbs muzzle energy).
In addition to Colt’s officially branded ammo, Doubletap produces their own proprietary centerfire rifle and pistol cartridges in Cedar City, Utah. Every Doubletap round features a strong, straight and concentric reloadable brass case, as well as propellant that is formulated to conserve the shooter’s night vision by minimizing muzzle flash.
