The problem: a short barrel typically accelerates a JHP too slow for it to deliver reliable terminal expansion.
The solution: Speer’s special Short Barrel Gold Dot JHP, which is optimized for barrels as short as 1.9”.

This round’s 135 grain bullet pops out of a 2-V barrel at 990 fps. It’d be a lot higher if Speer used a test barrel of more conventional length, but they want you to have a realistic expectation of its ballistics out of a snubbie.

In addition to undergoing expansion when it strikes the threat with relatively little energy, the JHP pierces barriers without shedding excessive mass; the primary benefit of its jacket, which is fully bonded to its alloyed lead core. The Gold Dot JHP’s jacket is also extremely concentric, which boosts accuracy (although you’re admittedly unlikely to use a short-barreled revolver at long range, accurate ammo never hurt anyone**).

Speer loads this ammunition in Idaho with low-flash, vision-preserving propellant, as well as lubricious and tarnish-resistant nickel-plated brass cases. Order the whole case and train the same way you’d defend yourself and yours!
