A: Thanks for reaching out Josh! I must preface by saying I'm no expert, so don't entrust your life to anything I tell you. That said, the 357 Mag is considered somewhat low on the spectrum in terms of what you would want for hunting (or defense) against black bear. With proper shot placement the round is deadly, of course, and you can only improve your outcome by selecting the right type of ammo. A 158 grain bullet is probably the bare minumum you would want, but I wouldn't advise a conical nose lead bullet. Of the ammo we currently have in stock, I'd most recommend the Underwood 158gr JHP: luckygunner.com/357-mag-158-grain-jhp-underwood-20-rounds. That bullet's going to provide better terminal expansion than a CNL, though it still has the broad, flat nose meplat you'd want to create a wide wound channel even if terminal expansion doesn't take place. I'd feel just as confident carrying the Magtech as well: luckygunner.com/357-mag-125-gr-sjsp-magtech-50-rounds. I doubt that you'd be served poorly by the 120gr Xtreme Hunter, too, as it's quite an monolithic from the demonstrations I have seen!

A: Hi Michael. The lower recoil of the Black Hills Cowboy rounds will make the Model 28 a much softer shooter. The will work well for the range Let me know if I can get some on the way to you today. Have a great day.
