A: Thanks for reaching out Ed! The wadcutter is often favored for self-defense with snub nose revolvers. As you're probably already aware, a very short barrel may not accelerate a hollow point bullet fast enough for it to undergo terminal expansion inside the target. Naturally, a wadcutter cannot expand either – but to its credit, its angular shoulder and wide, flat meplat are both capable of inflicting serious damage even when terminal expansion isn't part of the equation. Obviously, shot placement matters, but a 38 Spl snub loaded with wadcutters can be a very potent instrument of self-defense in the right hands.
