Ammo Inc. loads these cartridges with middleweight 100 grain projectiles, set to clear a barrel at a rate of 890 feet per second. Ammo Inc. refers to this round’s bullet as a “total metal case,” which is much more commonly known as a total metal jacket. Like the FMJ, the TMJ is unable to undergo positive expansion during penetration of a soft medium. This is to say that its terminal ballistics aren’t as effective for self-defense as a JHP.
Unlike an FMJ, however, the TMJ’s lead core is entirely sealed away by its jacket – even at its base. This prohibits propellant gasses from accessing and vaporizing any part of the core. In addition to decelerating barrel fouling (and conserving accuracy as a result), the TMJ significantly reduces the shooter’s exposure to toxic lead gas. That’s especially beneficial if you improve your marksmanship at an indoor range!
Ammo Inc. exclusively loads this ammo virgin brass cases and noncorrosive primers. Their Hyperclean Technology propellant undergoes virtually complete combustion during ignition, which does even more to keep fouling from accumulating inside the barrel.
