This cartridge isn’t loaded with a heavyweight of a bullet. It’s quite light at 300 grains, in all actuality. It merely owes its 1,000 fps muzzle velocity – which is more than 100 fps lower than sonic speed – to a comparably weak propellant charge. Less powder, velocity and bullet weight all contribute to the cartridge’s very slight recoil. Better yet, subsonic is precisely the kind of report a suppressor is engineered to suppress most effectively.
The bullet is the same kind of bonded soft point you’d find in a Federal Fusion cartridge. The electrochemical process which marries its lead core to its copper jacket makes the bullet very tough, and equally good at penetrating because of it. The SP does expand even when it meets its target at lower velocity, and has the high 0.290 G1 BC representative of the following ballistics:
0yds: 1,000 fps | 666 ft lbs | -1.5”
25yds: 983 fps | 643 ft lbs | 2.4”
50yds: 966 fps | 622 ft lbs | 3.9”
75yds: 951 fps | 603 ft lbs | 3.2”
100yds: 937 fps | 585 ft lbs | 0.0”
125yds: 923 fps | 568 ft lbs | -5.6”
150yds: 910 fps | 552 ft lbs | -13.78"
