The jacketed soft point (same thing as a soft point, really) features a copper-alloy jacket that reveals the tip of its lead core. This relatively simple configuration is all the JSP needs in order to be accurate and deliver terminal expansion. Its 300 grain weight, 1,850 fps muzzle velocity and 0.289 G1 BC are all indicative of a decently flat trajectory (for the 45-70), and foretell 55% velocity retention and 30% energy retention at 500 yards.
This ammunition is loaded with new brass cases, noncorrosive Boxer primers, and nonmagnetic projectiles. It isn’t military surplus, though you probably already assumed it is not over 130 years old from its color packaging.
