Let’s make it objective. This round’s 300 grain bullet and 1,000 fps muzzle velocity add up to 300 power factor. In contrast, Federal’s regular 45-70 300 grain load (1,825 fps muzzle velocity) has 555 power factor. In other words, this round is only 54% as powerful.
And there’s good reason for that. In addition to extremely low recoil, this cartridge is designed to deliver subsonic muzzle velocity. Its report doesn’t include a sonic boom, with is the very same natural phenomenon a suppressor isn’t equipped to stifle.
This round’s bullet isn’t a proper choice for hunting. It is a target hollow point; not one that will deliver terminal expansion. Worse yet, its striking energy pales in comparison to most any other 45-70 round out there.
