The Federal Champion brand is part of Federal's line of low cost range ammo, and is some of the most affordable 45 ACP brass cased ammo available. The primary cost saving measure is the use of copper plated bullets. Plating is bonded with a lead core bullet using a different process than a traditional full metal jacket, but the end results are similar.
The plating is relatively thin, however, so it's not recommended for use in guns with ported barrels, since the plating can shear off in the ports. In most other respects, plated bullets perform just the same as full metal jacket. And they're actually preferred by some people since there's no exposed lead on the base of the bullet, making them ideal for use in indoor ranges.
For this test, we shot a couple of boxes of 230 grain ACP Federal Champion. The plated bullet was seated in a reloadable brass case with a non-corrosive primer. We tested accuracy at 15 yards from a bench rest using a Springfield Armory XDM.
Other calibers of Federal Champion that we've tested were not quite as accurate as their full metal jacket counterparts. But this batch of Champion 45 got really great results. Besides that one flier, we got an impressive 10 shot group. The reliability was also great with no malfunctions in any of our test guns. For American made brass cased ammo, Federal Champion in 45 ACP is a great value for practice at the range.

I was given a Kimber Custom II last fall. I tried several different brands of ammo, and found that the Federal Champions were the most accurate round in my gun, fed and ejected perfectly, and were available at a great price. Luckygunner made the transaction simple and delivered the product very quickly.
Overall great bulk ammo
Picked up the 1000rnd case, gone through 400~500 between my brother and I. No failures/jams in our kimber kobras or edbrowns. We use metgar and wilson combat magazines. The ammo is quite dirty, but then again when you're shooting 2 to 400 rounds a session it is to be expected :P. No burring or anything noticed in barrels.
Too many misfires for me. Good luck.
I HAVE HAD TOO MANY MISFIRES! SOME EVEN HUNG UP IN THE BARREL! DIFFERENT CALIBERS! A COUPLE TIMES I HAD A HARD TIME GETTING THEM OUT OF THE BARREL!! SCARY IN MY BOOK. I WOULD NOT USE THEM FOR TARGET PRACTICE IF THEY WERE FREE!! SELF DEFENSE IS OUT OF THE QUESTION!!!
Great all around ammo
This ammo is an all around great load. Gone through 500 rounds now, and not a single failure of any kind. The powder burns cleaner than many other rounds making cleaning easier. Shipping was very straightforward.
Everything worked as stated
I would again purchased this product from this vendor. Box arrived quickly to my front door. I was surprised at how heavy the box was. My son and I made the decision to buy this from your extremely varied inventory.
I prefer to buy american made whenever possible. This Federal Champion Ammo works as expected. I bought 1000rds and have gone through 400rds so far and no failures in my 220 match elite. The ammo is dirty but lets face it, were shooting so who cares if I have to clean a bit more. I use frog lube so the residue just comes right-off. LG is the place to buy, I have not had a single issue with any ammo I have bought here at LG (5400 rds to date this year) keep it up LG.
