Brass is pretty much the perfect metal to make shell casings out of, but it’s always going to have one glaring shortcoming: its cost. While Russia was already utilizing economical steel to make casings, America began developing the aluminum casing back in the 1970s. This 45 ACP cartridge by Federal features a heat-treated, aircraft-grade aluminum casing, so it’s not only more accessibly priced than a brass cased round, but a little bit lighter as well.

Unlike brass, aluminum doesn’t have the ability to return to its original dimensions once fired. For that reason alone you can’t reload these rounds’ casings. They’re still socketed with sensitive primers and clean burning propellant, so you’ll enjoy rewarding target shooting and plinking just like you would have with any brass cased ammo. This round’s 230 grain full metal jacket projectile promotes ideal functionality in a semi-automatic, and its casing is treated to reliably eject from a chamber.
