Q: Hey, my grandfather passed a few years back and left me all of his guns and ammo and I was just curious if this would be a good self defense round for my colt peacemaker?? I’m not firearm illiterate but Forsure lacking a lot of knowledge especially when it comes to rounds themselves, please let me know if I should just use this ammo for practice or if it’s a decent defense round as well. The round is American eagle 45 caliber 225 grain jacketed soft point

A: Hello Nick! This round's jacketed soft point (JSP) projectile should work well for personal protection. Because its soft lead core is exposed at its tip, it will deform and tumble when it penetrates soft tissue, making its terminal effect suitable for self-defense and hunting. The JSP is a simple and cost-effective design, so many shooters also use it during range training.
