Want to defend your castle with the same kind of 5.56x45 ammunition Hornady designs for cops? Then today is your lucky day (and an unlucky one for any would-be home invaders), because you’ve found the Hornady TAP Patrol: now for sale to the gen. public!

This ammo’s small Mil-Spec primers aren’t its only lead-free components. It is also loaded with 53 grain CX bullets: monometal solid copper hollow points, which are engineered to pass the FBI test protocol when fired through a 14.5-16” long 1:7, 1:8 or 1:9 twist barrel (14.5” barrel = 3,096 fps muzzle velocity; 16” barrel = 3,157 fps; 24” barrel = 3,300 fps).

The CX achieves reliably deep penetration thanks to its superior toughness. Copper is far more ductile than lead, which is how the CX consistently manages 95% or higher weight retention while penetrating barriers. Barrier debris won’t clog the CX’s nose cavity, however. The bullet’s polymer tip preserves its full capacity for terminal expansion, and also gives the CX an ideal frontal profile for feeding in semi-autos.

Low-flash propellant is never unwelcome. It prevents you from temporarily losing your vision if you have to fire while your eyes are already acclimated to the dark!
