We recently received some literal barrels of 5.56x45 ammunition by Hornady in our warehouse. They contain 14,000 rounds and weigh over 370 pounds apiece. Not wanting to pulverize our kind delivery drivers’ spines into oblivion, we portioned the barrels out into far more manageable 500 round boxes – which are what you can order right here.

This is M193 ball 5.56x45 ammo, precisely the kind our Armed Forces would issue for use in the M16A1. It is also Frontier label ammo, created for Hornady by the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant. As the U.S. government’s primary small arms ammunition manufacturer, no other factory on earth makes more M193 rounds than Lake City.

This round has several distinctive Lake City touches. Both its propellant and primer are military grade, the latter of which is crimped in place for greater reliability. (Handloaders take note.) Most noticeably, this round’s brass case is gray around its neck. That’s the sign that Lake City heat-treated the case to give it superior suppleness. It assures both cleaner ignition and greater longevity as a reloading component. (In fact, nearly every manufacturer heat-treats their brass. Lake City simply skips buffing the discoloration out, because the aesthetics of their ammo is not something soldiers are typically concerned with. They just want it to work.)

This round’s 55 grain bullet is Hornady’s own doing, of course. Although it is a target grade bullet it’s still plenty accurate thanks to its manufacturer’s characteristically balanced copper jacket and lead core. With its 3,240 fps muzzle velocity out of a 20 inch barrel, you can look forward to gratifyingly flat trajectories as you plug targets. Such a bullet also transfers nearly 1,000 ft lbs of energy at 100 yards, making its terminal effect indisputably overwhelming even if it doesn’t expand.

Order now, stock up, and make certain your AR-15 has what it needs to be more than a decoration!
