This round is armed with a 62 grain bonded soft point. Its greater mass, abnormally tough construction, and expanding design equip the SP it to overcome barriers reliably, penetrate flesh deeply, and widen out quickly. According to Federal, if the bullet is fired (A) out of a 24” barrel (B) over a distance of 10’ and (C) into a sheet of wallboard backed by ordnance gelatin, it would (D) retain 100% of its weight, (E) penetrate to a depth of 17.75” (which falls within the ideal range of 12-18”), and (F) expand to a diameter of 0.42”. That all adds up to (G): a very unhappy home invader.
Federal advertises this rounds bullet as having 0.224 G1 BC. Here’s the ballistic performance that number represents out of a 24” barrel:
