This 5.56x45 ammo by Australian Defense Industries is pretty much indistinguishable from America’s own M855 (aka SS109) ammunition. The F1 ball round’s 62 grain bullet doesn’t have a green painted tip, although its gilding metal jacket also conceals a partial steel core that facilitates penetration through sheet metal and soft tissue. While we recommend this ammo for range training, it could certainly factor into a home defense plan as well.

ADI loads this ammo with propellant that is formulated to have very low temperature sensitivity. You may not care so much about that if you live in Florida, but our neighbors up north can expect consistent in-flight ballistics even when they fire this ammo outdoors during the winter. These rounds have factory fresh brass cases with sealed, non-corrosive primers. There is a mil-spec primer crimp that you’ll have to work around if you want to handload.

These rounds come packed in clear plastic sheets and are loaded into a new production ammo can. With so many features in place to preserve its freshness, this ammo makes a stellar choice for prepping.
