This 5.56x45 round’s bullet weighs 62 grains. It will work very well with a 1:7, 1:8, or 1:9 twist barrel, and its greater heft benefits its accuracy over long ranges. The 5.56x45 M855 penetrator bullet also weighs 62 grains, making this round effective for training with the costlier steel tipped stuff. This round’s bullet is an FMJ -- the vanilla bullet, but very good vanilla at that.

This cartridge’s other components are worthy of Hornady’s fine bullet. Its casing is factory fresh and made of supple brass, precisely tapered to shoulder tightly in chamber. Its primer is a Boxer, non-corrosive and easily replaced for handloading, and its clean burning propellant delivers a steady 3,060 muzzle velocity.
