“SS109” is just the non-American name for what we call the M855. That makes this 5.56x45 ammunition by Magtech of Brazil an excellent pick for any AR-15 that has a 1:9 or 1:8 twist barrel – although its accuracy won’t become unacceptable out of a 1:7 barrel, either!

This round’s 62 grain bullet has a two-part core. The rear section is conventional lead; the front is pure steel. Its extremely hard tip helps the SS109 bullet to penetrate a variety of barriers more effectively, and it will blast through a sheet of steel at close to medium range. The SS109 is indistinguishable from an FMJ on the exterior, and unlike the M855 it lacks green paint on its tip.

This round’s magnetic bullet is made of solid brass, with some discoloration around its shoulder that it received during heat-treatment at the factory. Magtech is part of the largest ammo manufacturing concern in the world, and they absolutely load non-corrosive Boxer primers for the sake of cleaner performance and reloadability.
