Federal often works together with the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant to deliver the goods to American shooters. This 5.56x45 ammo is loaded to military specs and ready to treat any AR-15 to a good time!

This is an M855 round – the “X” just means it was produced specifically for the commercial market and is not true military surplus. Its 62 grain bullet has a green painted nose because it conceals a steel tip beneath its jacket. This helps the FMJ to penetrate sheet metal up to around 300 yards, which can prove of exceptional value in certain tactical situations. At very high velocity penetration of soft tissue an M855 bullet may also yaw and subsequently fragment at the cannelure.

Naturally, a steel-tipped bullet is going to attract a magnet. That makes it a no-go at several ranges, especially indoor ones.

Lake City’s brass case is gray around its neck and shoulder. It’s still factory fresh – it has just been heat-treated to grant it the malleability to expand and seal the chamber during ignition. Lake City’s non-corrosive primer is sealed, making these loose-packed rounds worth hanging onto for a long time if needed!
