This 50 Beowulf cartridge by Underwood sports a 325 grain bonded jacketed hollow point projectile. The bullet’s great weight and muzzle energy enables it to inflict big damage upon impact, which along with its hollow point nose cavity conveys a whopping wound channel that an eastern elk is going to have a hard time walking off. This bullet is made by Speer via the same proprietary Uni-Cor electrochemical process that they use to make their coveted Gold Dot self-defense projectiles. Its jacket is therefore virtually inextricable from its core, so this bullet won’t shed a significant amount of its weight as it crashes through bone and tough sinew.

Like many self-defense rounds, Underwood’s 50 Beowulf cartridge features propellant that is treated to limit muzzle flash. This will better enable you to hunt at night, as your first shot won’t deprive you of your ability to make fast follow-up shots. (That makes this round a perfect choice for nighttime boar busting.) This round’s propellant furthermore burns clean, which in conjunction with its non-corrosive primer will leave your rifle in a much happier state after your hunt has concluded.
