Accuracy. Commanding stopping power. Hornady’s Super Shock Tip doesn’t force you to choose one or the other. The bullet’s pointed tip gracefully elides into a secant ogive profile, which ends in a boat tail. When it weighs 129 grains and leaps out of Hornady’s 24” test barrel, the .264 caliber SST exhibits a 0.485 G1 BC and the following ballistic performance:
0yds: 2,810 fps | 2,262 ft lbs | -1.5”
100yds: 2,622 fps | 1,970 ft lbs | 4.3”
200yds: 2,443 fps | 1,709 ft lbs | 5.1”
300yds: 2,270 fps | 1,476 ft lbs | 0.0”
400yds: 2,104 fps | 1,268 ft lbs | -11.8”
500yds: 1,945 fps | 1,084 ft lbs | -31.5”
600yds: 1,794 fps | 922 ft lbs | -60.5”
But the SST doesn’t stop there. Its tip’s tail is set inside the basin of its nose cavity, and its jacket is tapered – all features which supply shockingly fast and lethal terminal expansion. And thanks to its InterLock ring and cannelure, the SST’s jacket is locked to its core in two separate places. That’s a recipe for high weight retention, deeper penetration, and altogether deadlier terminal ballistics!
