This cartridge’s 140 grain hollow point boat tail is not a hunting bullet per se. If that hot chunk of lead and copper collides with a varmint, then the varmint probably isn’t going to notice what happens to it next. But if the HPBT sinks into a deer or other medium-sized critter, its inability to follow up impact with terminal expansion is going to count a lot against it.
Where the HPBT really shines is at the rifle range. That’s where you can appreciate just how well its form-fitted lead core and concentric jacket promote in-flight stability, and how effectively its sleek frontal profile and boat tail both minimize drag. Once the bullet clears a 24” barrel, its 2,690 fps muzzle velocity and 0.580 G1 ballistic coefficient will prevent transonic destabilization until approximately 1,350 yards.
